Feature-packed File Batch Renaming

Quick links

What FileBatchRename is

"FileBatchRename" is a Windows utility which allows users to quickly rename multiple files. This powerful, yet easy-to-use utility transforms the often tedious and time-consuming task of renaming multiple files into a simple matter of seconds.

"FileBatchRename" is ideally suited for serious Windows webmasters, users who need to transfer files from and to Unix and Macintoshes, as well as for all other users who deal with large numbers of files. It is also useful for those who maintain large libraries of documents or images and is an invaluable tool for organising files.

Check out the screenshots in How it works.

FBR Features

Many powerful renaming features including:

  • Undo the last renamed batch.
  • Add all the files under selected directory. This greatly improved the speed of adding files. I tested in my PC with 10,000 files. They can be added within 15seconds.
  • Rename links in html files.
  • Padding for any portion of the file name. (e.g. image.1.gif -> image.01.gif)
  • Automatic creation of numbered lists (e.g. image1, image2, image3, image4, etc.)
  • Replace anywhere in file name (e.g. find "year" replace with "month")
  • Replace from the beginning of the file name (e.g. find "us" replace with "world")
  • Replace from the end of the file name (e.g. find ".htm" replace with "html")
  • Convert to uppercase ( e.g. "index" -> "INDEX" )
  • Convert to lowercase ( e.g. "INDEX" -> "index" )
  • Convert to Proper Case (e.g. "my photos" -> "My Photos" )
  • Supports Unicode filenames

How it works

The pictures below demonstrate how "FileBatchRename" works:

In this example a webmaster has changed service providers and his web sites which were built for a webserver which uses the .htm extension to identify web documents, needs to be changed to accommodate the .html extension required by his new service provider.

First add the files that the user wants to rename in the file selection dialog.

Then he selects the operation that is to be performed on the files. In this case, the user wants to change all files ending in htm to html.

The preview screen displays the changes that will be made. Pressing the PROCESS! to commit changes.
