Four great women artists are in the spotlight this month at the Faena's Screening Room, in a cinema cycle of new and classic films, programmed by guest curator Jaie Laplante, Director of Programming of the Miami Film Festival.
Larger-than-life Polaroid portraits of Beat poets, Harvard scholars and rock stars have been Elsa Dorfman’s niche for decades and Oscar-winner Errol Morris takes a look at her career in The B-Side: Elsa Dorfman’s Portrait Photography.Salma Hayek has never been better than in her star turn as Mexican painter Frida Kahlo in Julie Taymor’s Frida. A chance purchase at a Chicago garage sale exhumes one of the great unknown photographers of the past century, in the Oscar-nominated Finding Vivian Maier. And the earthy, passionate choreography of the late German choreographer Pina Bausch is captured in Wim Wenders’ beautiful and ageless documentary,Pina.
