Q: To my surprise, when I tried to login the program, I
was presented with a keyboard that only allows numeric entries (my PIN is
composed of alpha-numeric characters.)
A: Although the login screen shows a keypad with
only numbers, you
can still use keyboard to type letters in the PIN input box (case sensitive).
The reason for present this visual keypad was to protect from spyware logging
your keys.
Q: How can I backup my data?
A: Your data is safe, when upgrade, reinstall or uninstall the application. There are
3 ways to backup your data.
1. Your encrypted data file usually named "your name's MyID.EID". It
is stored in "MyIDs" directory in your "My Documents" folder. e.g. For Windows 9x, the folder is
usually in c:\my documents\MyIDs\. For Windows NT, usually in c:\winnt\profiles\user\my
documents\MyIDs\. For Windows 2000, it is in C:\Documents and Settings\user\My
Documents\MyIDs\. You can make copies of it using Windows Explorer.
2. Use the Export function in the File menu. Which will
decrypt all data and append to a text file you specify. Be careful to use this
function. Because the unencrypted text file may expose all your ids and
passwords. Handle it with caution. (This is not secure.)
3. Use MyID WebSync Service synchronize data with the MyID
Lite regularly.
Q: How can I restore my data?
A: Well, there are 3 ways to restore your data.
1. Locate your back up file, copy it to the working
location. On login window, click Choose Data File. Browse to the file in your
working location. The program will use this file as your data file.
2. Use the Import function in the File menu. Import the exported text file. MyID will import the data and add to the end of your
data file. You can delete the unencrypted text file after import, for secure.
(This is not secure.)
3. In the File menu click Recover Deleted Data. If Recover
Deleted Data menu did not bring back your record, you can try to do a WebSync.
WebSync will try to download the missing records from the Web. Note, If you
click Compress Data File, or do a WebSync, your deleted data will be remove
permanently, therefore cannot be recovered.
Q: How secure is my password data?
A: Faena MyID uses industry standard strong encryption algorithm to make sure your data is as
safe as possible. First, MyID generates a 1280-bit hash code from your PIN.
Then, the hash code will be used to encrypt your password data file. The hash
code and your PIN themselves are not stored in your data file. You should choose
a
strong password as the PIN. Also, try to make the
PIN Hint a little easy for yourself to remember,
but difficult for others to guess.
Q: Does it support MBCS (multi-byte character sets)?
A: Since version 3.3 fully supports MBCS now.
Q: After uninstalling, your data file still exist.
A: This is by design. You should manfully
remove it by yourself.
Q: Error with COMCTL32.DLL.
A: You can download the COMCTL32 update from
here.
Note that Microsoft does not allow separate redistribution of COMCTL32.DLL (and
for good reason), so we cannot include it into MyID setup files.
Q: Will MyID keep updating?
A: Yes. As long as the resource allow, I will keep
updating the program.
Q: How can I make comments?
A: You are welcome to ask me questions, report bugs
and make comments. Contact
