Faena Art Announces Inaugural Artist in Residency Program

Arts

Faena Art announces inaugural Artist in Residence program with three Miami-based multidisciplinary artists.

Jamilah Sabur, Suzi Analogue, and Paperwater will work in-residence at the Faena Forum, transforming the OMA designed building into temporary artist studios. The program will run from July to September 2020.

Faena Art’s Artist in Residence program responds to the organization’s mission to foster and engage the local artistic community and support experimental art-making practices through this marked period of uncertainty.

We are excited to transform the Forum into a shelter for the arts

- Alan Faena

While in residence, each artist will explore persistent themes in their work, initiating new projects and collaborations while completing past endeavors. Sabur, who works across performance, video, and installation and frequently considers the past, present, and future linked to the complex relationship between varied geographies, will create a new video work while in residence.

Analogue, who as a producer, songwriter, composer and founder of Never Normal Records aims to highlight creators from the African Diaspora, will be working on several projects at the Forum. These include audio/visual recordings utilizing synthesized sound and a motion picture sponsored in part by a Teenage Engineering artist fellowship, a new initiative supporting artists of color in the music industry.

Right now, more than ever, the worldwide conversation everyone should be having is how we can bring communities together and heal from the mass devastation and inequity that groups of people are facing daily.

- Suzie Analogue

Comprised of artists Daygee Kwia and Eddy Samy, Paperwater is an avant-garde production duo fusing alternative electronic and Hip Hop with hints of indie. While in residence, Paperwater will finalize The Florida Project, a collaborative album featuring various Florida-based artists, in addition to recording studio sessions and new creative content.

Launching with Sabur, Analogue, and Paperwater, Faena Art intends to expand the program and invite additional artists to continue to develop their practice within the walls of the Forum.
