Published in 2019

Guest Galleries —a new series of installations in Faena District curated by Faena Art— will launch on Friday, February 15th with DotFiftyone as the first guest of this series. Faena Art has engaged artist Juan José Cambre from their represented artists, and has commissioned him to create a site-specific mural in the courtyard of Faena Bazaar, which will be unveiled this Friday evening, and on view free and open to the public until mid-April. The gallery will take over a space on the ground-floor of Faena Bazaar and will be in-residence during the same time period, featuring works by Juan José Cambre, Graciela Hasper and Gonzalo Fuenmayor. After DotFiftyone, a new guest gallery will take over the space, and work in collaboration with Faena Art to select an artist to be commissioned for a new site-specific mural.

Opening Night. February 15, 6 -10 pm.

This ongoing and rotating series is free and open to the public, and the galleries in residence will be open Monday – Saturday, noon until 8 pm and on Sundays from noon until 6 pm.

February's Featured Designers

These female designers are crafting beautiful clothes and jewelry for powerful yet feminine muses.

Isabel Pedemonte and Chipi Tornos are two friends who came together to design modern loungewear inspired by their beautiful seaside surroundings in Asturias, Spain. Each collection reflects a “brin de folie” stemming from their obsession with fabrics, prints and textures that translate into lightweight and versatile garments from kaftans and robes to nightgowns and lingerie. They strive to “envelop the woman who wears them in a world of reverie, sensuality, style and elegance,” the pair told Spanish newspaper, La Nueva España. Delicacy is the thread that connects all of their collections, crafting pieces with colorful patterns and feminine fabrics that adapt to the body like cotton mousselines, satin, silk and lace. At the end of the day, the designers are striving not only to create beautiful garments that “capture the glitter of the instants that have captivated us,” but a lifestyle for the modern woman.

Perhaps the perfect accessory for a flowing kaftan is a pair of droplet diamond earrings or a sapphire ring from fine jewelry designer Graziela Kaufman. The Brazilian artist’s gemstone designs are a favorite among celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence, Taylor Swift, and Jennifer Lopez, and regularly grace the pages of high-style magazines like Harper’s Bazaar to Modern Luxury. Trained by her grandfather, Kaufman carries generations of know-how when it comes to handcrafting every piece and sourcing gems from all over Brazil. She has spent years traveling to mining towns throughout her native country to learn the fascinating history behind every stone, which has ultimately inspired the imaginative designs of her exalted creations.

Where Fire and Flavor Ignite

"What makes Los Fuegos truly extraordinary is our commitment to the ancient art of cooking with fire,” explained Yassine Belkady, the restaurant’s manager. “We use no electricity whatsoever—just fire, wood ovens, and tradition” Everything has that distinctive char, those bold, nearly burnt flavors that taste almost primal. “When you dine here, you can literally smell the wood and rosemary in the air,” he added. The restaurant’s setting matches its culinary panache. By day, the veranda transforms into an airy ambience when its retractable roof opens to Miami’s brilliant skies. Guests enjoy lunch while overlooking the property’s stunning pool, creating what Belkady called “a completely different experience than any other hotel or restaurant in Miami.”

Beneath the Tree of Life

Mornings here unfold slowly while guests sip on fresh-pressed juices—like the South Beach, a tropical elixir of coconut water, local citrus, mango, and strawberry, or a vitamin-rich Green Juice packed with spinach, kale, ginger, cucumber, celery and green apple. “The tranquility makes it really special,” noted Joshua Rodriguez, Director of Nightlife. “It’s a place where guests can grab a coffee, a light bite and relax or catch up on some emails.” A menu of delicious appetizers is great for snacking throughout the day, including crispy artichokes with sesame yogurt and sourdough breadcrumbs; prime rib empanadas with llajua sauce; and a vegan option of steamed veggie rice with sweet potato and broccoli. Come golden hour, the energy shifts. On weekends from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, resident DJs set the mood as the bar transitions into a laidback sundowner haunt. The CopaCabana cocktail, a tropical indulgence of banana and apricot liqueur, coconut cream, allspice, and Bulleit Rye, is a guest favorite. “People order it because it’s served in a Faena-branded coconut, but it’s the taste that makes them request another one,” said Rodriguez.
