A Prestigious Platform for the Arts
The Faena Prize for the Artswill takeplace for the first time in Miami and thewinning proposal will be exhibited at FaenaBeach during Miami Art Week 2022.
Considered one of the most prestigious art prizes in the Americas, the award is a catalyst for innovative, site-specific and immersive works that transcend the traditional boundaries of art, science, technology, philosophy, and social practice. “Building upon the success of Faena Prize in Buenos Aires, we are thrilled to bring the Faena Prize to Miami,a vibrant epicenter of cutting-edge arts whose energy fuels our ongoing commitment to cross-disciplinary cultural production,” said Alan Faena.
“The city has been home to our programming for several years and will inspire artists to push their boundaries and envision their most ambitious, thought-provoking projects to date.”
Miami is a land built on diaspora identities, shared cultures, and a fleeting population—the new edition invites artists to reflect on the concept of home as individuals and as a community. It also summons artists across genres to explore how as a society we are consciously striving to engage and coexist with nature in greater harmony.
The nominating committee and jury features an esteemed panel of curators and museum directors from around the world including the curator of the Venice Biennale and the director of the Art Institute at the FHNW Academy of Art and Design in Basel, Switzerland. The winning proposal will receive a US $100,000 prize with US $25,000 in unrestricted funds awarded directly to the artist and the remaining US $75,000 will be allocated towards the production of the temporary installation on Faena Beach during Miami Art Week for the public to experience free of charge.
