Faena Jazz Series with Etienne Charles Presenting A Creole Christmas
Faena Live welcomes Trinidadian trumpeter, percussionist and composer Etienne Charles back to Faena Theater with A Creole Christmas, a joyful celebration of the season that reimagines beloved holiday classics through the rhythms and spirit of the Caribbean.
Faena Live continues the ninth annual Faena Jazz Series with A Creole Christmas, as Trinidadian trumpeter, percussionist and composer Etienne Charles returns to Faena Theater with his stellar ensemble of jazz and folk musicians from around the globe.
Born and raised in Trinidad, just a few miles off the coast of Venezuela, Charles grew up surrounded by a melting pot of cultures from South America, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, India and China. That fusion shapes the island’s sound, from waltzes and paseos to calypso, and it is at the heart of his music.
A Creole Christmas brings together traditional classics from the Caribbean, American and European holiday songbooks, featuring popular seasonal favorites, Venezuelan parang, American gospel and even selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite. Highlights include Roses of Caracas Waltz and a fresh take on Chocolate (Spanish Dance), with maracas, congas, trumpet and cajón woven into the instrumentation.
Together, Charles and his ensemble offer a joyful holiday celebration rich in rhythm, warmth and Creole soul.
