Faena Jazz Series with Pablo Ziegler Jazz Tango Trio
Faena Live welcomes Grammy Award-winning pianist and composer Pablo Ziegler to Faena Theater for an evening celebrating the passion and sophistication of Argentine nuevo tango.
Faena Live continues the ninth annual Faena Jazz Series with an evening of nuevo tango featuring the Pablo Ziegler Jazz Tango Trio.
Born in Buenos Aires, Grammy Award-winning pianist, composer and arranger Pablo Ziegler has spent decades as one of the most important figures in nuevo tango, the vibrant musical hybrid of traditional tango, American jazz and European art music. For more than a decade, he performed in Astor Piazzolla’s legendary quintet, appearing on iconic recordings including Tango: Zero Hour, La Camorra and Central Park Concert, and helping shape what Piazzolla’s music became during their collaboration.
Leading his own ensembles for over 25 years, Ziegler has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Teatro Colón, Sydney Opera House, Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall, the Blue Note and Birdland, among many others. His album Jazz Tango won the 2018 Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album, making him the first nuevo tango musician to win a major Grammy. Over the years, he has shared the stage with artists including Branford Marsalis, Regina Carter, Paquito D’Rivera, Kenny Garrett and Randy Brecker.
Together with his trio, Ziegler masterfully blends traditional tango, American jazz and European classical influences into a thrilling contemporary sound.
