Faena Jazz Series with VARI (Varijashree Venugopal)
Faena Live welcomes Grammy-nominated singer, flautist and composer Varijashree Venugopal, known as VARI, to Faena Theater for an evening that brings the intricate beauty of Indian classical music into a global jazz setting.
Faena Live continues the ninth annual Faena Jazz Series with an evening featuring Grammy-nominated singer, flautist and composer Varijashree Venugopal, known as VARI.
Born in Bangalore, VARI was recognized as a child prodigy who could identify 100 Carnatic ragas at just 18 months old and began performing concerts at the age of four. Rooted in the intricate classical tradition of Carnatic music, she is one of the pioneering artists bringing the techniques and soul of Indian singing to the global music stage. Beyond her work as a vocalist, she is also a flautist, composer and music educator.
Renowned for using her voice as an instrument, VARI blends improvised singing with music cultures from around the world. Her artistry has led to collaborations with some of the most notable musicians of our time, including Bobby McFerrin, Herbie Hancock, Snarky Puppy, Michael League, Victor Wooten, Béla Fleck, Jacob Collier, Anoushka Shankar and Hamilton de Holanda.
Together with her ensemble, VARI delivers a boundary-defying performance shaped by improvisation, extraordinary technique and cross-cultural collaboration.
